About this Discussion

According to the IPCC, the concentration of greenhouse gases in the earth’s atmosphere is directly linked to the average global temperature on Earth, and the concentration has been rising steadily. The most abundant greenhouse gas, accounting for about two-thirds of greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide, is largely the product of burning fossil fuels.

There is alarming evidence that important tipping points, leading to irreversible changes in major ecosystems and the planetary climate system, may already have been reached or passed. One of the most urgent challenges facing countries across the world today is how to achieve economic prosperity and development while also combating climate change.

The Paris climate change agreement commits nations to limit global temperature rise to no more than 2°C above pre-industrial levels, with countries pledging to cut or curb their greenhouse gas emissions – through a combination of mitigation and adaptation measures – by 2030.

OECD Environment commented on TOCHUKWU NGWU's Post in Cities and Urban Development, Climate Change, Forestry

Greetings Green Society,

I am currently working on research that involves estimating the social costs of PM₁₀ emissions (per ton) and I’m looking for recent estimates, ideally broken down by country.

If you or your organization has access to updated figures—or knows where I could find reliable data sources—it would be incredibly helpful for my work.

Even partial leads, relevant reports, or pointers to databases would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any guidance you can share!

— Ambrose

This report supports the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration by examining current financial flows into restoration and the funding gap that must be closed to scale up impact.

Focusing on nature-based solutions like regenerative agriculture, forest and landscape restoration, and climate-smart farming, the report highlights how actions such as planting native species and restoring rivers can revive ecosystems, protect biodiversity, and build climate resilience.

? Date: Monday, 21st July 2025
? Time: 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM (CEST)
? Venue: Online

Hosted by the Global Green Growth Institute, facilitated by GGKP, this event highlights the importance of aligning Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) with Long-Term Low Emission Development Strategies (LT-LEDS) to effectively address climate change and achieve the ambitious goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C, and enhancing climate resilience in line with the Paris Agreement.

Throughout the session, the newly published guide “Aligning NDCs and LT-LEDS: A step-by-step guide for practitioners”, jointly developed by the GIZ SPA programme and GGGI, will be launched and presented. In addition, the panel discussion will feature insights of climate experts from UNFCCC, GIZ, NDC Partnership, and government representatives.

? Join us to explore how aligning NDCs and LT-LEDS can foster successful and credible climate action framed by long-term national strategies!

Shared an Event in Climate Change

Sharing this interesting event organised by OECD.

As the world prepares for COP30 in Belém, Brazil — where nature is expected to be high on the agenda — this year’s Green Growth and Sustainable Development (GGSD) Forum will focus on the role of forests and agriculture in mitigating climate change. Over a high-level opening and five thematic sessions, the Forum will explore how improving forest management practices can enhance carbon sequestration and the protection of natural capital, and how the agriculture sector can reduce ...
