On 22 January 2026, the Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP), under the GEF-funded and UNEP-led Global NIP Update Project (GEF ID 10785), held a webinar on Activity Options for Action Plans for Brominated, Chlorinated and Other New POPs and featured the presentation “Financing (Sectorial) Circularity: Basic Principles of Extended Producer Responsibility”.
The presentation introduced key concepts of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), outlining roles and responsibilities of governments, producers, PROs, municipalities, and waste operators, and highlighting the importance of mandatory, well-enforced systems to reduce free-riding and improve recycling outcomes. It also presented practical resources such as the EPR Toolbox and the Global Action Partnership for EPR (GAP for EPR), designed to support countries in developing robust, inclusive, and financially sustainable EPR schemes to advance circular economy goals.
