Ending Plastic Pollution in Southeast and East Asia: Bridging gaps through data and knowledge, capacity, finance, regional co-operation and local action

5 AUG 2025
Geneva

Building on the discussions of previous two events held during INC-5.1 (Busan, November 2024) and at UNOC3 (Nice, June 2025), this dialogue will spotlight current trends in plastic use, flows and pollution across ASEAN Plus Three countries. It will provide an opportunity to discuss how to translate data and analysis into effective policy action and bridge gaps, with a focus on actionable solutions, enhancing data systems and monitoring, financing strategies and regional cooperation. It will focus on the following themes:

  • Showcasing examples of recent action to reduce plastic pollution in ASEAN+3 countries, drawing from regional, national and sub-national initiatives.
  • Identifying opportunities to scale up policy efforts and partnerships, including through regional frameworks and cooperation platforms
  • Exploring innovative financing solutions to support the circular economy transition and plastic pollution mitigation
  • Facilitating dialogue to inform the ongoing treaty negotiation process with grounded insights and lessons learned from the region.
