On 25 April, 2023 (16:00-17:00 (Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago) (AST) (GMT-4), 22:00-23:00 (Geneva, Switzerland) (CEST) (GMT+2), next day, April 26, 00:00–1:00 (Seychelles, SCT) (GMT+4), next day, Apr 26, 8:00–9:00 (Suva, Fiji) (GMT+12)), ISLANDS will host a webinar titled Sharing SIDS Best Practices on E-waste Management.

E-waste is one of the world’s fastest-growing waste streams. According to E-Waste monitoring data in 2019, the world generated 53.6 Mt of e-waste, which is an average of 7.3 kg per capita globally. The Caribbean Region generates an average of 9.4 kg per capita, per year, and the Pacific 2,9 kg per capita annually. The global generation rates are predicted to almost double by 2030.

The webinar will provide an opportunity to explore SIDS unique experiences in e-waste management, with a focus on learning from the recent e-waste work in Caribbean and Pacific Regions. The webinar will assist SIDS in sharing experiences and learning from each other on improving the management of this difficult waste stream.

Under the GEF-funded Implementing Sustainable Low and Non-Chemical Development in Small Islands Developing States (ISLANDS) Programme, this webinar will be inviting ISLANDS stakeholders and actors into ongoing engagement and collaboration via ISLANDS E-waste community of practice on the Green Forum – a new collaboration space for stakeholders in the green economy. And explore awareness and engagement of key e-waste stakeholders at the global, regional, national and local levels.
