About this Discussion

In 2019, over 92 billion tonnes of materials were extracted and processed, contributing to about half of global CO2 emissions. This “take-make-dispose” approach and the resulting waste – including plastics, textiles, food, electronics and more – is taking its toll on the environment and human health.

A circular economy model replaces this end-of-life concept with restoration, shifts towards the use of renewable energy, eliminates the use of toxic chemicals, which impair reuse and return to the biosphere, and aims for the elimination of waste through the superior design of materials, products, systems and business models. The circular economy approach improves resource efficiency and reduces environmental impact on natural capital by designing products in a more recyclable way, adopting efficient technology and turning waste into a resource. The circular economy offers a trillion-dollar opportunity in terms of possible material savings, innovation and job creation, improved land productivity and soil health, and green growth. Achieving this, however, requires strong collaboration between leaders from business, government and civil society.

At Green Miles Zero Waste Services we have just developed a Digital App to enhance our one of a kind in Kenya Onsite waste management and minimization OS that offers a business service through real time waste recovery and optimizing upcycling and recycling hence diverting 95% of waste from ending up to the landfill with the Key advantage of;
-Reducing Green Gas emissions
-Value addition to recycling through packaging non contaminated recovered recyclables enhancing circular economy.
-Digital App to connect and train under the GreenCycle over 150,000 households on Organic waste management, over 2500 contracts that generate municipal waste.
-Digitally backed real time waste management tracking onsite, transportation, packaging and end user recycling for audits and Consumer Environmental performance reports towards carbon foot print and Net Zero reviews.
-Gender balance consideration with the ability to sanitize under the aggregation and mobile sorting crew waste pickers under a wage program in the project waste resource Green Centers set to absorb over 1000 youths per year, 50% women in the informal sectors of Nairobi, Mombasa and Nakuru.

We are looking at partnering with like solution based organizations, companies, individuals who can be ready and willing to partner with us achieve this vast Climate Change mitigation process initiative tried and applicable.

Hi everybody,

A Green Economy allows countries to create economic progress while addressing key societal and environmental issues.

According to the UNEP, a green economy “results in improved human well-being and social equity, while significantly reducing risks and ecological scarcities."

PAGE and UNCC Learn offer self-paced courses on Green Economy. These e-courses will give you the tools and knowledge to fully understand this concept and put it into practice.

Created a Post in Circular Economy

Hi everybody,

I'm looking for a scaling partner (e.g. hospital, healthcare provider, DHB etc) in the healthcare industry to help me implement and test my solution for a global cooperative forum or circular economy.

Basically how the system works is by delegating SMEs or stakeholders within the healthcare industry the ability to create policies together and to implement those polices or the rules that make up those policies as forums.

End users or other stakeholders would then join the forum(s) to help manage those rules at scale or in real-time.

This is a new approach toward a circular economy and has taken me several years to figure out the nuts and bolts of how information and business processes can operate sustainably or at scale.

If anybody has got any friends or know of anybody working in the healthcare industry and who might be interested in helping me test and implement this solution then please reach out.

This approach doesn't just apply to the healthcare industry and can also be applied to other industries including food, energy, education, housing and so on.

This approach targets SDG-11 Sustainable Cities and Communities and SDG-17 Partnerships for the Goals.

Thank you!

PS: I have included a link to the image attached to this post as I found the image to be somewhat blurry.

hi all,

Happy New Year to all of you!

I just wanted to share with you this course that I recommend to take to get a broader global perspective of our work and the relation of CE and SDGs.
This will be 3rd of 5th edition of this course already by UNSSC. I attended this back in 2020 and I can recommend for its interesting broad global perspective and also good networking with fellow students. However, it might sometimes feel a bit superficial or repetitive for such a crowd like you, but nevertheless I do recommend it to those of you who really want to get the broader perspective, beyond Europe, how CE can leverage developing countries' situation.

It is free of charge. see details below.

Check out this report on why the circular economy is becoming a priority in West African coastal countries in recent years.

This study aims to help decision-makers better understand the economics of marine plastic waste generation and its cleanup, with a focus on West African coastal countries.

Policymakers in the region can stimulate acceptance of circular economy-related products by, inter alia, implementing taxes, and subsidies and rebates, in fiscal policy initiatives, making available R&D funds for project design innovations, and increasing intraregional trade in recovered plastics to reduce the plastic waste burden on smaller economies in the region.
